Hygge décor: how our fitted wardrobes can help you on your way to Hygge Heaven

So what is Hygge décor? You might ask this question, and you also might be wondering what the Scandinavian movement has to do with our bedroom furniture?

Hygge

Hygge, or ‘hoo-ga’, as it’s pronounced, is a primarily Danish lifestyle movement, that has been capturing the hearts and minds of the rest of the world in the last few years. Centred around the idea of cosiness and relaxation, Hygge has naturally gravitated towards the realms of home décor, with more and more influencers and figureheads for interior design having their say on how it’s possible to create a Hygge atmosphere in your own home.

As our sliding wardrobes and bedroom furniture are all about making more room and creating space in the home, that undoubtedly goes hand in hand with a resulting calm environment and more mindful living.

With that in mind, we’ve put together this guide on how our fitted wardrobes can help you on your way to Hygge Heaven.

Introduce calm to your bedroom by banishing clutter

Clutter: it takes up the majority of your bedroom living space, grows by the day and never seems to be gone from your floor, the tops of shelves and over the back of chairs for more than 24 hours.

This endless cycle of clutter, and more interestingly, the psychology of clutter, can be harmful to our mood, well-being and just generally make our rooms look untidy and messy. In fact, there has been evidence linking the increased presence of clutter with higher levels of cortisol, which is the stress hormone!

Our tip? Banish clutter completely with a fitted wardrobe. With the extra space when compared to a standard, free-standing wardrobe, fitted wardrobes can fit in all of that extra ‘stuff’ that tends to find itself scattered across your bedroom floor. Add to this a compartmentalised wardrobe interior system, which includes shelving, drawer units and hanger systems, and you have a recipe for a clutter-free, Hygge-ready home.

Create the extra space you need to enjoy your favourite Hygge activity

With all that clutter away, now’s the time to enjoy your favourite Hygge activity. This could be anything from reading a book, to lighting some candles or relaxing with friends at home.

Switching off mentally to read is much easier with a spacious bedroom. Our sliding wardrobe doors open horizontally, and are streamlined, taking up no extra space in your room when opened. This is contrasted against the usual outward-opening wardrobe doors that are found on a standalone wardrobe unit, and are not always built with space-creating in mind. A spacious bedroom is a Hygge bedroom!

Use mirrored wardrobes to create the illusion of more space

Although our wardrobes do in fact create real space, sometimes, an extra feeling of space can go a long way in creating a room that has a calming atmosphere. After all, nobody wants to feel as if they don’t have enough space.

So once you’ve created some real space with our sliding wardrobe doors, here’s a tip we suggest to give your bedroom that extra airy, Hygge feel. By adding mirrored sliding doors to your fitted wardrobe, the illusion of extra space you’ll create will give a real sense of openness to your home.

But one aspect that’s not to be overlooked, especially as far as Hygge goes, is colour. Choosing from one of our many customisable colourways, which are natural and versatile, in-keeping with the latest home décor trends, can also add a calming touch to your bedroom.

We never choose bright or loud colours for our products, delivering swatches with the perfect marriage of bold personality and natural, subtle timelessness.
