Pocket doors from Spaceslide
The Eclipse pocket door slides into the wall cavity and effectively disappears when opened, meaning you save a huge amount of space compared to a normal door. You can choose from two types of pocket door - clear and sandblasted. Both styles allow light through, with the sandblasted door adding a degree of privacy.
How the pocket doors work
To install the pocket doors, you'll need full access to the cavity area, so the track system needs to be installed before the wall is built. This makes the pocket doors ideal for new build houses and flats where space is at a premium, and also in homes which are being refurbished.
The pocket doors use a top track and rollers, so you can continue the flooring through from one room to the other. As the weight of the glass is supported from the top track, you'll need a ceiling or timber/joists to support the weight of the glass (which weighs approximately 20 kg per square metre.)
What's included
The door comes complete with:
- top track
- bottom guide (installed within cavity)
- satin anodised silver pelmet (to conceal the top track in the opening)
- rolling gear
- a pair of satin silver doorknobs
Ordering your pocket doors
First, you'll need to measure the aperture size. Measure the width of the opening between the two rooms, then the height from the structure (ceiling or timber) to the final floor height, remembering to make an allowance for carpet, laminate or tiles.
The aperture's width should be between 600 and 1200 mm, and the height between 1500 and 2500 mm. Note that the size of the glass will be 20 mm wider than the aperture to ensure that the guide remains concealed.
Technical considerations
The Eclipse pocket doors are made from 8 mm thick clear safety toughened glass, or 8 mm thick sandblast etched safety toughened glass.
The cavity needs to be 60-70 mm smaller in width than the aperture, so that the door meets the end of the cavity before the doorknob hits the wall. The cavity gap needs to be 60 mm in order to fit the top track and rollers.
The top track length is supplied at twice the aperture width. It can then be easily trimmed by hacksaw to fit. The pelmet which conceals the top track in the opening is 110 mm high (top to bottom). The bottom guide is approx 200 mm in length and is sited within the cavity adjacent to the opening at final floor height. The door is adjustable via the rollers by approx 6mm up and down. We allow for a gap of approx 15mm between final floor and the glass door.
In the unlikely event that a door becomes damaged, it can be easily replaced even after the cavity wall is built, by simply removing the pelmet. This gives easy access to the rollers and top track.
